There are two kind of characters in this game: PCs and NPCs.
Player Characters are those created and controlled by one of the players; you should consult with them if you want something important to happen with that character. PCs are mostly part of the Main Cast, though the option is open for a PC to be a supporting character.
Non-Player Characters are those that can be used by any player with impunity, following the guidelines detailed by his/her creator, the Gamemaster in most cases. The majority of the NPCs are part of the Supporting Cast, though some hold positions that enable them to interact a lot with PCs, making them almost part of the Main Cast.
